STEPS TO CONSIDER TO HELP SELECT THE RIGHT BED

  • STEP ONE You should consider your bed a health aid which helps improve your well being. It is not just a piece of furniture and if properly chosen it can improve your health and your quality of life. You need to collect all the relevant information before making an informed decision about which bed is best for you.
  • STEP TWO - Your bed must provide the right support for your body. The feel of a bed is important but it is not the only answer too a good nights sleep. Do not buy a bed solely because it feels comfortable. Consider the ability of the bed to provide the best support suited to your requirements.
  • STEP THREE - Your bed must be able to adjust to your individual body shape and support your body with the correct posture and spinal alignment. The correct bed will help your body rest and it will not be stressed and you will wake up feeling refreshed.
  • STEP FOUR - Your bed must allow the correct weight distribution. A zoned mattress will provide specific support in particular areas.
  • STEP FIVE - Your bed must minimize partner disturbance. Make sure that the bed does not allow for roll together.
  • STEP SIX - Your bed must eliminate high pressure points. Particular mattresses can help reduce peak pressure points such as in the hips and shoulders and increase support in the lower back, improving spinal posture. Do your research with the help of our knowledgeable staff who will confidently show you the features which actually work to help you gain the best REST possible.
  • PARTNER DISTURBANCE

This is a common situation where the couple weight varies to a degree. The most common cause includes disturbance when one partner gets into bed or when one partner turns often in the night. The mattress type is a major contributor to this situation and is most likely caused by the coiled spring unit where all the springs are linked and the disturbance is relayed to all adjoining springs.

In extreme situations couple elect for single beds however for many this is not the preferred option from a relationship point of view. The options are to select a mattress that minimizes disturbance ie pocket spring mattress or latex. All these options reduce restlessness or a twin set ensemble. Because the pocket springs are not directly linked to each other therefore the disturbance is not transferred as readily as a coiled spring mattress. The properties of latex clearly illustrate the least amount of disturbance for each partner by comparison to coil and pocket springs. Therefore the right mattress and bed system can reduce partner disturbance considerably with out the need for separate beds.

    SORE HIPS

Discomfort and soreness on the hip joint is often associated with too much pressure usually when the hip and waist vary a lot. The amount of pressure can interrupt the blood flow around the joint and at times extend further to he legs and feet. A solution to relieve this is by increasing the level of support in the lumbar region and decreasing the support in the hip area resulting in more even distribution of pressure along the body. Therefore latex mattress or a zoned pocket spring mattress could be suggested here.

    NECK PAIN

This is most commonly associated with incorrect alignment of the spine ,head and shoulders. This can happen if the shoulders are too high on the mattress with a pillow that is too low. To relieve neck pain the posture of the upper body needs to be improved and shoulders must be able to immerse more into the mattress to reduce the distance between the head and the sleep surface. This should be undertaken with the correct pillow height.

    POOR CIRCULATION

Due to variation in body shape in our shoulders and hips we experience peak pressure on these points when lying on our backs or side.

Women tend to be heavier in the hips and men in the shoulders. Soreness and stiffness can occur at the hip and shoulder points and this can be caused by poor circulation occurring when the mattress support incorrectly places too much pressure in the wrong places. This can result in frequent disturbances in your sleep as your body demands a change of position seeking relief. The peak pressure on the shoulders can result in a disruption of blood flow causing a tingling sensation in fingers, loss of feeling arms and aching muscles. Peak pressure on hips can cause numb feeling on hips plus discomfort in the legs. Varying the level of support along the body reduces the pressure on the shoulders. Zoned pocket springs can help here as can latex mattresses.

    INTERUPTED BREATHING

Sleeping on he wrong bed can cause often interruption to your breathing resulting in not only excessive snoring but lack of oxygen circulation through your body again contributing to restlessness and frequent awakening.
Air ways can be affected by bad posture in the neck and head zone. Due to peak pressure on hips and shoulders some people find it necessary to lie on their back , however in this position some people are more prone to snoring than when they lie on their side. It is important to ensure that posture is as close as natural posture as possible. This will ensure that the airway restrictions are minimal. This can be achieved by ensuring the shoulder is able to immerse into the mattress and combined with the most suitable pillow height ,improve sleep.

    0STEOPOROSIS

This is a condition that affects many older people and is a condition that progressively affects the skeletal structure, the bones of the hips ,spine wrist, ribs pelvis and the upper arm. People with osteoporosis should consider a bed that provides a level of support to improve posture and decrease pressure on the hips and shoulders. Thus a latex mattress or a pocket spring would be a good choice here.

    BACK PROBLEMS

If people suffer from back problems the right bed can assist by providing the right support for the back. It is also important in preventing against back problems. Our spine is made so that it works best in the upright position but when we lie down the individual components of our spine are subjected to stress and tension. If your back is not correctly supported over time then there is a weakening of components between the disks. Progressive weakening of the spine occurs over time and so it is a good reason to make sure you select the right bed and look after your back for today and the future.

It is important that the muscular-skeletal structure of the human form is as close to zero stress as is practical. When a human is standing upright the spine is on a vertical plane ie zero stress on the spine and muscles. Improved posture has been strongly recommended for many years by health professionals. Customers should select a bed that will give a straight profile. The bed must also cater to the customers preferred comfort. ie; latex or pocket spring.
